Brief introduction

CHINA ON THE MOVE explores two fascinating questions from China, both with global significance – how can the battle against poverty be won and what are the economic solutions to enable recovery from Covid-19? The presenters, Cameron Andersen and Jenny Cortes Ybañez, travel across the country to meet people overcoming the exceptional challenges that are mirrored across the world – from local farmers to international entrepreneurs. In early 2020, lockdown in China saw unemployment soar and exports plummet as the economy shrunk for the first time in three decades. But China was also the first country out of lockdown, and the first to face a new world whilst still embracing the momentous target of eradicating extreme poverty. From remote mountain villages to bustling mega cities, sweeping deserts to lush plantations, this series brings together stories from high-tech innovation to historical craft, personal sacrifice, entrepreneurship and resilience. These are Chinese stories about issues that affect us all – could their approach to solving them be a blueprint for the world?
