In the Dunhuang Yardan World Geopark, the Dunhuang Animation Festival, a feast of animated video art taking place in the vast desert, surrounded by the Yardan body landscape and the stars of the universe, is about to kick off.

Dunhuang Animation Festival will provide a variety of support and funding opportunities for video creators exploring the fields of animation, film and new media art, including residencies, prizes, screenings and exhibitions, forums, workshops, and overseas promotion. We encourage the participation of creators of different nationalities, regions, and cultural backgrounds and workers in related fields to understand, explore, revitalize, and disseminate the history and humanities of the Dunhuang region, to experience the extraordinary natural beauty and charm of the region, and to continuously promote and improve a vibrant, free and open platform for cultural co-creation. To provide audiences with a higher quality of visual enjoyment, creators with more opportunities and possibilities, and to add fresh energy to the Dunhuang in situ cultural experience.

The project's organizing committee consists of a number of outstanding video art practitioners active on the world stage, including animation directors, producers, curators, artists, film festival directors and others. In the wind-eroded landscape of the Yadan body, the inaugural event is centered on the Dunhuang Animation Festival and Contemporary Video Art Exhibition and various rich activities related to the industry, presenting the world's best animation works, video art, and new media art to audiences around the world, and experiencing a multifaceted visual event with an international perspective.

The inaugural Dunhuang Animation Festival (2023) will take place May 1 - May 6, 2023.

Competition

The 2023 Dunhuang Animation Festival opens its competition on November 15, 2022, with a "frame-by-frame" production process. （The exhibition is open to moving-image works of any technical form, including student work, experimental film/imation, artist video/film/imation, children's animation, game animation and virtual reality projects, as well as commissioned works.

The Dunhuang Animation Festival invites you to participate in a feast of animated images in the Dunhuang Yardan World Geopark, surrounded by the vast desert, the Yardan landscape and the stars of the universe.
