The 11th Vancouver Chinese Film Festival Call for Films is Open

Disaster is merciless, and there is love on earth! As agreed by the organizing committee, the entire registration fee of this year's festival will be donated to the Canadian Red Cross to help Turkey suffer from the earthquake relief, making every filmmaker's participation meaningful.

About

 

The Vancouver Chinese Film Festival: a non-profit overseas Chinese film festival officially recognized by the Government of British Columbia in Canada. The film festival was established in 2012, organized by the Vancouver Chinese Film Festival Organizing Committee, co-organized by the Vancouver International Film Festival and the Beijing University Student Film Festival. We have received strong support from the Chinese Consulate General in Vancouver and all levels of elected government in Canada.

 

The goal of the Vancouver Chinese Film Festival is to enhance public welfare by promoting Chinese culture and Chinese films. Our team’s talents in creative content creation, film marketing and other activities, allow excellent Chinese films to go abroad and be seen by the world.

 

The holding of the Vancouver Chinese Film Festival has caused a sensation in Chinese-speaking regions of North America and Asia. More than 200 media organizations from all around the world have reported on the festival, which include CNN, Xinhua News Agency, Phoenix TV, Apple Daily, Sina, Tencent, Sohu and many more. The Vancouver Chinese Film Festival has cooperated with the Beijing University Student Film Festival, one of the four major film festivals in China, for three consecutive years. Through the interaction of universities, film exchanges, and other organizations, many excellent Chinese films have been presented to the world stage.

 

The Vancouver Chinese Film Festival has also cooperated with well-known North American film festivals such as the Vancouver International Film Festival, the Toronto Film Festival, and the Montreal Film Festival to push higher visibility for Chinese-language films.

 

The main events of the Vancouver Chinese Film Festival include: Opening Ceremony, Excellent Chinese Film Judging and Screening, Short Film Competition, Film Market and Script Venture Investment, Academic Seminar, Cocktail Party, "Red Maple Leaf Award" Award Ceremony and Closing Ceremony.

 

 

 

Film Selection

 

The Vancouver Chinese Film Festival offers several sections including feature films, short films, animated films, documentaries, etc. Chinese films in languages such as Mandarin, Cantonese, Minnan, etc. or non-Chinese films with Chinese participation in directing, cinematography, screenwriting, starring and other work positions in the crew, regardless of country. Films must be produced after February 2018, with a feature length of 80 minutes or more and a short film of 45 minutes or less. No restrictions on subject matter.

How to Apply

 

Required materials: All participating productions must provide the organizing committee with the complete film, film credits, posters, stills, film description in English and Chinese, director's description in English and Chinese, cast and crew list, and save them to Baidu Netdisk, then send the link to Baidu Netdisk and the extraction code to the festival organizing committee.

 

 

 

Registration Method

 

1.Online registration: Visit the official website to fill in the registration information and complete the online payment.

 

2. Offline registration: Login to the official website to download the registration form and complete the payment by scanning the code.

For online registration, you need to place the link and extraction code of Baidu Netdisk in the film link column.

For offline registration, you need to send the registration form, Baidu Netdisk link and extraction code, and payment voucher to the organizing committee by email.

Notes

 

1. All application materials are non-refundable, regardless of whether they are selected or not.

 

2. The shortlisted films can be announced through the festival's website www.vcff.org和WeChat public platform "温哥华华语电影节".

 

3. After receiving the notification of the shortlisted films, the applicant must provide the organizing committee with the corresponding promotional materials as soon as possible to facilitate the promotion and award evaluation. The relevant materials will be used for the production of the festival's official special edition, promotional films, souvenirs, and the setting up of the screening site. The organizing committee guarantees that the films and the corresponding promotional materials will not be used commercially.

 

4. All participating film registration organizations must pay the registration fee to the Organizing Committee, and those who do not pay the registration fee will be deemed to have automatically forfeited their eligibility.

 

5. All film applicants must send their full-length films to the Festival Organizing Committee by May 31, 2023.

 

6. The Organizing Committee welcomes the crew and creators of the shortlisted films and the participating films to meet with the local audience and media at the festival venue.

 

7. All exhibited films will receive a screening book of Vancouver Chinese Film Festival.

 

8. The organizing committee will directly promote the outstanding winning films to other international film festivals that cooperate with the festival.

 

9. Excellent Chinese filmmakers attending the 11th Vancouver Chinese Film Festival will also have the opportunity to receive a certificate from the Canadian Federal Parliament or the BC Provincial Council.
