Call for Entries | The 48th Hong Kong International Film Festival (28 Mar – 8 Apr 2024)
General Entry Regulations
The Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF) is one of Asia’s most reputable platforms for filmmakers, film professionals and filmgoers from all over the world to launch new work and experience outstanding films. As a competitive event, the HKIFF serves as a platform for international film exchange, to promote better understanding between global cultures, and to discover new talents from around the world.
Programme
The programme comprises features, documentaries, shorts and animations organized into the following sections:
▪ YOUNG CINEMA COMPETITION (CHINESE LANGUAGE)
▪ YOUNG CINEMA COMPETITION (WORLD)
▪ DOCUMENTARY COMPETITION
▪ SHORT FILM COMPETITION
▪ GLOBAL VISION: 30-40 new works including special programmes and tributes
▪ FANTASTIC BEATS: 8-10 new international works
▪ REALITY BITES: 8-12 new documentaries
▪ ANIMATION UNLIMITED: 12-15 new animated films
▪ POETRY IN MOTION: 12-14 new experimental films
Eligibility
▪ Films must have been completed after 1st January 2023.
▪ Except Hong Kong productions, films must not have been shown in Hong Kong prior to the Festival screenings.
▪ English subtitles are required for non-English language films.
▪ Films previously submitted to the Festival and were not selected, will not be reconsidered for the 48th HKIFF.
Submission
1.To submit a film for Festival’s consideration, an applicant must:
*submit a completed entry form via FilmFreeway, HKIFF website or by post (download the entry form).
*complete the payment for entry fee (please see details below).
*submit either a DVD screener or a Vimeo online screener (The minimum requirement is picture-locked with temporary sound and music. Only one version is allowed for each entry).
- All DVD screeners should be labeled with the film title and confirmation reference number (for online submission only).
- The Vimeo link should remain active and accessible until 11th March 2024. Details for your online screener should be filled out in the entry form. Please prepare this link in advance of completing your entry form.
2. It is Entrant’s sole responsibility to ensure ALL REQUIRED ENTRY MATERIALS are submitted to the HKIFF before the deadline. The HKIFF reserves the right to disqualify any submission, without refund of any kind, which does not meet all submission requirements within the deadline.
3. All submitted materials will not be returned and will be destroyed within three months after the Festival.
