In 1920s, Shang Xirui is a young, talented Beijing Opera Artist who just moves to Beijing with his Opera performing team. He introduces a new performing style to the traditional Beijing Opera community. His revolutionary works receive a lot of praise as well as criticisms. His passion towards Beijing Opera draws the attention of Chen Fengtai, the owner of a very successful logistics company at the time. They get close very soon and become good friends. Out of re​spect, Chen Fengtai finances Shang Xirui’s Beijing Opera performances and makes him the biggest star in Beijing. Soon World War II begins, Japanese officers force Chen Fengtai to transport munitions for them. Chen Fengtai tricks the Japanese armies to be buried in a cave and he himself also gets seriously injured. Shang Xirui and Chen Fengtai’s friendship supports them to get through all these challenges and they both love Beijing Opera and homeland deeply.
