A Tale of Intangible Cultural Heritage

Produced by Guizhou Satellite TV, “A Tale of Intangible Cultural Heritage” is a 25-minute documentary on the intangible cultural heritage of the Miao ethnic group in Guizhou. It covers five intangible cultural heritages, including Four Seals Miao Embroidery (Qingzhen City), Dazi Embroidery (Kaili City), Tin Embroidery (Jianhe County), Silver Jewelry (Leishan County) and Paper Cutting (Liping County). Gen Z international students set out on a journey to visit the inheritors of these living heritages and explore the stories behind them. The documentary not only showcases the exquisite techniques of these intangible cultural heritages, but also offers the audience an opportunity to understand and appreciate the wisdom of the Miao people and the vitality and charm of fine traditional Chinese culture.

"Living in Guizhou" showcases the unique culture and lifestyle of Guizhou's mountainous areas. Season 1 focuses on the local people and their traditions and dreams. Season 2 explores Guizhou's culture, history, and its links to the Chinese culture. The series won "Best TV Documentary" at the 19th Chinese American Film & TV Festival in 2023. "Living in Guizhou (Season 1)" has 8 episodes and each episode has 40 minutes. Through the 8 different themes of "mountain, water, architecture, bridge, cave, costume, song, future", the documentary presents Guizhou's mountain scenery, folk culture, and lifestyle. With 24 real and lovely faces, it also tells the life wisdom of the Guizhou people in the mountains and their pursuit of a better life. "Living in Guizhou (Season 2)" has 8 episodes and each episode is about 45 minutes. In each episode, a famous Chinese anthropologist and historian is invited to enter the unique cultural settlement of Guizhou, explore the historical and cultural remains and discover those historical details that are almost ignored and forgotten today. By doing this, it arouses people's memory and shows its enlightenment and value to the modern society.
