About

The MINT Chinese Film Festival is the first Chinese film festival held in Keswick, in the heard of the northern English Lake District, Cumbria, UK. The festival is co-founded by Yixiang Shirley Lin (MSc graduate in Film, Exhibition and Curation), and Carol Rennie (MSc and PhD in Chinese Literature), owner/operator of the Keswick Alhambra Cinema.

The Festival will be launched on 3-5 February 2023 at the Alhambra Cinema, Keswick, UK. The 2023 edition focuses on the cross-cultural communication of Chinese cinema and women’s representation in film, providing an occasion for filmmakers, spectators, critics and scholars to watch, award and discuss Chinese film. The three main parts of the festival include 1) the feature film and short film programmes, 2) panel discussions/workshops, 3) the Audiences' Choice Award for the best short film, and Q&As

The festival curation takes into account a mixture of industry and academia in inviting film professionals, student societies and experts to deliver productive events to be involved in this festive environment with collective synergies that allow them to share their valuable experiences and thoughts. There will be a rich film programme that combines a selection of Chinese language films in different formats with paratextual events, including cultural workshops, pop-up events, panel discussions, and filmmaker's talks.
