On December 5, 2024, at 10:00 am, the first Wild Planet Film Festival and the China Premiere of the Burano AI Film Festival kicked off at Wanda Cinema in Beijing CBD. Co-hosted by the Wild Planet (Beijing) Technology Co. Ltd., and the organizing committee of BAIFF in Venice, Italy, this inaugural exhibition, together with 42 forward-looking enterprises, cultural organizations and innovative institutions from 12 industries in 10 countries, aims to comprehensively showcase the world's most advanced technology of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the field of film and art creation.
There were 140 people from a wide range of fields, including technology, film and television, culture, art and universities, and from many countries, including Italy, France, the United States, Canada, Australia and Pakistan, to witness the Dawn of AI Cinema.
At the opening ceremony, Zhao Yang, Head of BAIFF Greater China, introduced the history of BAIFF, the first AI international film festival in Europe. Meanwhile, the founding family of the Venice Biennale, the parent group of the Venice International Film Festival, attached great importance to this China premiere event. Giovanni Selvatico, the representative of the family, delivered a speech by video, saying that BAIFF China's first exhibition is of great significance, which not only continues the Venice Biennale's pursuit of artistic plurality, but also takes the lead on the brand new track of the fusion of AI and film.
The screening session at the opening ceremony was the highlight, with four carefully selected AI films appearing one by one, in different styles but with the same destination, not only biographies, life comedies, but also police and crime, and even adventure documentaries. Each of them is a deep embrace of AI and movie art, not only presenting the innovative application of AI in movies, but also integrating the soothing of the human heart, insight into social phenomena, and guidance in the pursuit of values in each work.
After the screening, industry experts, research scholars and pioneering artists held a unique and in-depth discussion on the practical application of AI in filmmaking, the challenges encountered and the future development trend.
